Government Shutdown? What Does This Mean for my Immigration Case?

The government remains shut down as a comprehensive bill that President Trump agrees with is yet to come forward in the House. Trump refuses to sign a bill that does not include funding for the border wall. Senators continue to be at odds with providing money for a border wall especially during such a vulnerable time for the US government.

25% percent of the government functions are shut down along with immigration agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, CBP, ICE, USCIS, CIS Ombudsman, the Department of Justice, and the Department of State. Fortunately, the Department of Labor will not be affected during the government shutdown because a prior bill was passed funding the DOL through September 30, 2019. According to the SSA Contingency Plan for FY2019, the SSA would “except” a certain amount of employees to aid the processing of replacing Social Security number cards.
